Location Summits are all the rage for corporate firms these days! Every top firm has their executives off on business summits to exotic locations, sometimes strategic locations like Dubai when it's to do with topics like 'Oil' are considered. However, before the global slowdown happened setting up location summits in exotic holiday locations was preferred. This was perhaps done to have the bigwigs meet and encourage them for some well deserved R&R.

The tourism industry has also taken this concept ahead with places and hotels promoting their packages with big advertising campaigns. Companies like Appco Group have R&R meets to discuss and evaluate the whole business of direct marketing from different parts of the world.

Location Summits have perhaps moved on to strategic locations and perhaps taken into account the austerity drive that's going on worldwide thanks to the recession in many parts of the world.

Often regarded as the magical mountains, the Seven Summits are the highest mountains of each of the seven continents. Though different lists include different names, generally the same core - Aconcagua, Kilimanjaro, Denali, Elbrus, Carstensz, Everest, Pyramid and Vinson; is maintained.

Summiting all of these mountains have been considered a mountaineering challenge and have been climbed by a select few. One of my friends who works for  Clover Advertising and who loves mountaineering, often used to quote businessman and amateur mountaineer Richard Bass- who is first credited to have achieved the feat of summiting all seven mountains, as his inspiration.” I have read his book-Seven Summits (which covered the undertaking (Bass et al. 1986) almost 3 times and I think it does take a lot of determination and hard-work to set and achieve a goal like he did” he often used to say.

His description of the book made me grab hold of one and read it. After reading, I realised – no matter how high the summit is, and no matter where its located, all that is required is hard-work, and determination to get to the top.

As a person who loves travelling and exploring new places I have been to a lot of continents, countries and some of the world’s most beautiful locations. Few locations have inspired me, a few have had me coming back for more and there are others from where I have never wanted to come back.

One such location was Kochi, in Kerala. Best known as the Queen of the Arabian Sea, Kochi is one among the finest natural harbors across the world and together with its enchanting backwaters the city gifts you a more or less perfect holiday. An ensemble of distinct cultures (Jewish, Portugese, English, Dutch and French), a ride in the majestic houseboat and the stay at Chittoor Kottaram (A living symbol of the Cochin Royal Dynasty), made my stay at the place one among the best I have ever had.

Another EU summit has just finished in Brussels and the decisions to the proposals are still not agreed or not pleasing to many member countries. It must be said that the summit was uneventful, with not much events taking place. And by the acrimonious standards of past gatherings, notably last month’s bust-up with Britain, this event was uneventful, even amicable. Agreement was reached on the fiscal compact, the new treaty to toughen budget rules, in record time: less than two months.

The leaders compact-now called the “treaty on stability, co-ordination and governance in the Economic and Monetary Union”, has as its main aim the imposition of balanced-budget rules on members. This may be a useful discipline in good times. But many worry that, at a time of widespread crisis, such pro-cyclical rules risk imposing too much austerity too widely, thus darkening the specter of recession and making it even harder to balance budgets. This may explain why leaders suddenly want to be seen talking about their plan for growth and jobs, particularly in tackling the problem of youth unemployment. But, as far as Britain is concerned, they are refraining themselves from not to be included in this. This stand of Britain is firm, unless there's a change in policies, that many marketing companies like TC World Ltd., are anxiously looking forward to.

I got a leaflet the other day from my friend who is part of GDC. It says, GDC which stands for Game Developers Conference 2012 is preparing itself with major arrangements towards March 2012 event with two new specialized Summits- Games For Change and Game IT Summits. These Summits will kick-off Game Developers Conference 2012 during the first two days of the conference, which runs March 5th-9th, 2012 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

The Summit events will cover pertinent topics in emerging sectors of the games industry, particularly focusing on broadening the scope of the medium to encompass new audiences, new platforms, and of course new gameplay ideas. After having a read, I gave a thought of having a summit like this for my company and even talked about this to my friends working for Appco Group.

The maker of ‘Twilight’ series films- 'Summit Entertainment", will be purchased, for a $400 million, by Lions Gate Entertainment Corp., says media reports. But the Lions Gate has only plans to buy Summit Entertainment, for roughly $400 million in equity.

Reading the latest report, my friend, who's a fan of the Twilight series and who works for Enigma Marketing told me that there were reports of it that Lions Gate has been in serious talks with privately held Summit for more than a month. Keeping up-to-date with them, she told me that the two are probably the most successful independent film studios in Hollywood, and a merger would solve a number of issues for them.

Who doesn’t love animals? We all do. Irrespective of the job we do and the areas where we live in pets are considered a bundle of joy by many.

A friend of mine who works for Sirius Star Marketing as a direct marketing executive is so serious about his work that never will you think that he has time for a pet. I was surprised when I visited his home. There were 6 dogs right at the door to greet me. And my friend was telling how he always found time for them. All his dogs looked well-fed and taken care of the best manner. The UK is a great country to run and host a summit, why? Because unlike Australia, USA, etc the UK has a lot of cities very close together.  The US from one side of the country to the other is massive, which means from a logistical point of view can be a nightmare.  It's very easy for people to get to London for example from anyway in the UK.

Visiting the UK and getting around is pretty easy, although the infrastructure is not as good as say France or Germany but much of that is down to Britain's early success in the industrial revolution, if we had to build the train track again from scratch I'm sure it would be done differently.
